General ledger postings
General ledger postings are the final accounting entries triggered when business documents, such as invoices or purchase orders, are processed in D365. The system automatically creates these entries based on pre-defined posting profiles, which map transactional events to the correct accounts in the chart of accounts.
How are general ledger postings validated and finalized in D365?
General ledger postings are the lifeblood of your financial visibility. When an operational activity, such as a goods receipt or a customer payment, is processed, the system triggers these postings to update your financial statements in real time. Because this process is automated, it significantly reduces the potential for manual data entry errors. However, automation requires that your posting profiles are accurately mapped. If your financial statements show discrepancies, it is often due to an outdated or incorrect posting profile configuration. Regular technical checks, often facilitated by Dynamics 365 support, ensure that your general ledger postings remain accurate and consistent with your organization's internal controls.
